We have heard several stories of enterprising individuals prevailing against insurmountable odds and becoming successful entrepreneurs. However, it isn’t very often that you come across a successful entrepreneur who chose to pursue his passion and managed to garner success in both fields. Such is the inspiring story of George “Frost” Murphy.

“I was fortunate to have been introduced to excellence in sports at an early age,” Murphy explains. “In high school, I had a track coach that coached many Elite and Olympic level athletes. I was able to  apply the formula of proper preparation along with the mental and physical training that I learned from this coach to other sports and business ventures.”

While in college Murphy pursued both his passions for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Real Estate. He joined one of the top producing real estate agents in the nation, and witnessed excellence once again, this time in the business field. Murphy was on a team that closed over 200 home transactions per year. “In order to handle volume like that you had to be pristine in the way you treated people and handled your paperwork. Fortunately, just like in sports, I now had a business mentor that preached and exemplified excellence- this stuck with me.”

Today, Murphy is a successful entrepreneur with ventures spread out across the real estate, oil and gas, fitness and medical industries. His favourite being Elite Mixed Martial Arts. Elite MMA has trained more than 10,000 students through their martial arts programs. “Excellence is a big part of our culture today at Elite, everything from our facilities to our classes, to the lives our instructors lead.” Elite MMA is not just one of the top martial arts schools in the country, but also one of the most fun and rewarding places to work in the fitness industry. “Our coaches and managers have been with us for years, they love working here and love making a difference in the lives of our students.”

When asked about how his success in the many polarizing fields, Murphy stated, “I consider myself fortunate to have had good mentors. Excellence works in every field. This is the only way I could have been able to successfully compete professionally in sports and at the same time grow world-class organizations that are spread out across multiple industries, all this, while being married and having two small children and going fishing once a week!.”

Murphy claims that he is happy that he managed to turn his greatest passion for his long term profession. Many of his business and philanthropic endeavours are centred around transformation. He went on to tell a story about a young lady who was suffering from domestic abuse at home and wanted to learn martial arts as a means to defend herself. That’s when he realized the potential for martial arts to change people’s lives for the better, he knew that he made the right choice.
