Police Investigate Death on Grassy Narrows First Nation

GRASSY NARROWS – Treaty 3 Police Service (T3PS) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are conducting an investigation into a death that occurred in the Grassy Narrows First Nation community.

On July 9, 2019, at approximately 12:55 am, Treaty 3 Police Service officers responded to assist a male who had been seriously assaulted on a roadway in the community. Responding T3PS officers and paramedics located an unresponsive male and immediately initiated life-saving measures. Kenneth SCOTT, age 30, of Grassy Narrows was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place later this week at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto.

Leon John FOBISTER, age 35, of Grassy Narrows, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. The accused is currently in custody and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora today.

Officers from T3PS and OPP North West Region Crime Unit are continuing the investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
