THUNDER BAY – It is news some expected and news no one wants. There are reports that Bombardier in Thunder Bay will lay off half of its workforce leaving 550 workers out of a job.
Provincial Transportation Minister Caroline Mulrooney in a statement issued on Tuesday said, “Our government has spoken to executives at Bombardier to express our disappointment that their company has taken this step. We urge the company to work with the provincial government to come to an agreement that would see jobs remain at the Thunder Bay plant.”
The current contract at Bombardier for the Toronto Transit Commission is slated to end by the end of the year.
