Meet the CEO and co-founder of Dormzi – Milan M. Kordestani, who is also the co-founder of Guin Records, and a nationally competing equestrian. Residing in the Bay Area, California and graduating from Sacred Heart Preparatory in 2017, Kordestani now attends college in Colorado. Recognizable for his ranking of 3rd in the Worlds Championship, 17 and Under Park Division, in 2015 and 2nd at the Worlds Championship in the 5-Gaited Show Pleasure division in 2016, Kordestani is an accomplished equestrian.
One-of-a-Kind App
Going to college in the United States is an experience only a lucky few get to have. Yet, if you can count yourself as one of the fortunate few, you also know that college life is not always ‘fun’! It’s often the first time young adults are living independently, learning to balance challenging academics with managing chores. Studying, preparing meals, doing laundry, and running errands take up a lot of free time and are often overwhelmingly difficult to manage for full-time students. At least, in the first few years of university life, friends can help, but that hardly counts as a long-term solution. So what do students living in the 21st century do? They download an app of course!
An app called ‘Dormzi’, set to launch Fall of 2019 aims to build a culture of community, convenience, and safety for university student. Dormzi is a gig based app that is only accessible to students. If you need services such as tutoring, laundry services, buying groceries, or even errand running Dormzi can help you achieve it all. It does all these while also fulfilling the need to connect socially. Dormzi instantly connects students of the same university together, to help each other with these day to day tasks. On the flip side, if you want to make some quick cash to have for a rainy day, you can toggle to the work side of the app with a single click and help your fellow students. A simple yet stellar idea to be financially independent during your academic years, the app allows students to seamlessly ask for help while also flipping to helping others in a single click.
The masterminds behind this app are a couple of students from the Silicon Valley – Milan Kordestani and Sabine Rizvi. Milan Kordestani, a student at Colorado College, and Sabine Rizvi at New York University created the app together after Sabine had faced the trials and tribulations of being a student first hand. The fact that Milan happens to be the son of Silicon Valley tycoon Omid Kordestani, who currently holds the Executive Chairman position at Twitter, might explain the entrepreneurial spirit in him.
However, despite the highly influential roots, Milan has proven himself to be a successful sole entrepreneur since the age of 18 when he created Milan Farms. Now the serial entrepreneur is tackling tech, tunes, and media with startups Dormzi, Guin Records, and The Doe.
Apart from Dormzi, Milan owns a couple of other business ventures. Milan established ‘Guin Records’ along with his sister Misha Kordestani in early 2018. The label was created to support independent Hip Hop and R&B artists and will be signing their first few artists in early 2019. Kordestani’s first venture, Milan Farms, was started when he was just 15 and focuses entirely on the humane production of poultry and eggs. The farm is also the first of its kind to produce the exotic spice, saffron through hydroponic means of production. And The Doe, a mystery project he’s been keeping from the public.
Milan, the teen wonder of the business world, is also a professionally trained equestrian who sharpens his skills during his free time. Milan is very well on his way to becoming a youth icon. The ethos behind his every business is ‘creating for change’. Whether by helping fellow students, bringing hidden musical talent into the limelight, or by using humane methods of food production, Milan Kordestani has a great business head on very responsible shoulders, and we look forward to seeing how these startups grow, and perhaps any future projects to come.
Dormzi, which will be available to both IOS and Android users, has completed alpha testing and has been in beta testing at NYU since late 2018 with plans to launch on the app store in quarter three of 2019.
