A Skincare Career Grounded in Experience
With more than 25 years in the beauty industry, Lindsay van der Looij has developed a career defined by expertise and hands-on knowledge by working in the field. Her journey started with working in luxury perfume shops and gradually evolved into a leadership role with her own ventures in the skincare world. She co-founded KNAP Institute in Amsterdam, later launching BLOY Institute, both of which became well-known for their customized skin treatments and the celebrity clients they served.
Her commitment to offering results-driven skincare ultimately led her to develop her own venture called Labareau, a brand built around a core belief: that luxury and clinical efficacy should exist symbiotically. The brand’s proprietary SAXZ-12® technology—a native collagen complex—was designed in collaboration with biochemists and skin specialists. This formula focuses on replenishing lost collagen in the skin, restoring elasticity, and slowing the signs of aging without invasive treatments. This is very significant in an age where popular skincare procedures involve deliberate skin breakdown, to artificially encourage collagen production.
Resilience and Research in Equal Measure
Creating Labareau wasn’t an easy or a quick process. Lindsay spent four years developing her formulas, facing resistance from industry experts who doubted the feasibility of her ideas. At the same time, she was hit with the uncertainty that the COVID-19 pandemic brought, while managing two clinics and a dedicated team. These experiences tested her willpower but also affirmed her dedication to providing non-invasive and evidence-based skincare solutions. She drew upon her experience from treating a wide variety of skin types and conditions, and also from helping many celebrities with their skin.
Unlike many approaches in the beauty industry, Lindsay prioritizes protecting the skin’s natural barrier. Instead of repeated laser-based treatments that injure the skin to provoke repair, Labareau focuses on adding what the skin loses—especially native collagen, which is essential for menopausal women experiencing rapid collagen decline. This is facilitated by the brand’s very own SAXZ-12® technology.
International Growth, Personal Mission
Since its official debut at the Masters Exposition in 2021, Labareau has grown from a domestic brand into an international effort. With placement in the prestigious De Bijenkorf department store and a recent launch in Dubai, the brand has gained recognition among luxury skincare consumers. Moreover, a debut in the United Kingdom is scheduled for 2025.
In early 2025, Lindsay made a strategic decision to sell the Amsterdam branch of BLOY Institute to focus exclusively on Labareau. With a nearly 90% customer return rate, the brand is popular for both its science-led results and its commitment to quality.
While looking to the future, Lindsay remains focused on expanding Labareau’s international reach and building meaningful collaborattions with professionals who share her vision. With a strong foundation in science, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a mission to enhance confidence through skincare, she continues to bring her formulas, and philosophy, to a global audience
