Tragic Incident Claims Life of Tara Walker, Chemawawin Cree First Nation Member – One Charged with Second Degree Murder

A homicide investigation is underway in Winnipeg after a suspect turned himself in to police and later led officers to a tragic discovery.
On the morning of April 6, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m., a 31-year-old male arrived at the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) Headquarters at 245 Smith Street to surrender in connection with an unrelated warrant.
During the intake process, new information surfaced, prompting an urgent police response to a hotel in the 300 block of Ellice Avenue. Upon arrival, Central District officers located the body of a deceased adult female, later identified as 34-year-old Tara WALKER, a member of the Chemawawin Cree First Nation.
Following further investigation by the WPS Homicide Unit, it was determined that the suspect and the victim were known to one another. Police allege that an altercation in the hotel room led to the woman’s death.
Andrew James SINCLAIR, 31, of Easterville, Manitoba, has been charged with Second Degree Murder.
