From Sun-Kissed Skies to Snowflakes – Kenora’s Weather Stays Playful

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods region is waking up to a postcard-perfect spring morning—well, the winter version of a postcard anyway.

As of 6:00 AM at the Kenora Airport, the skies are mainly clear, the temperature sits at a brisk -8.0°C, and a light west wind at 7 km/h is nudging the wind chill down to -12°C. The humidity is holding at 74%, visibility is excellent at 24 km, and the pressure is currently at 102.5 kPa—but dropping, which means change is in the air, quite literally.

Saturday Forecast – Bright Start, Flaky Finish

Today kicks off with sunshine, but don’t get too cozy. By noon, clouds will begin rolling in, and by this afternoon, there’s a 60% chance of flurries making an appearance. Winds from the west will rev up to 30 km/h with gusts hitting 50 km/h, so while the high will climb to a relatively mild +1°C, the wind chill this morning will keep things feeling closer to -13°C. The UV index rises to a moderate 3, so sun protection might come in handy—just not the summer kind yet.

Tonight, skies stay partly cloudy with a lingering 60% chance of flurries early in the evening. Winds will ease to 20 km/h before going light overnight, but the cold is sticking around. Expect a low of -11°C, with wind chills settling near -13°C. It’s a perfect night for hot tea and not going outside.

Sunday & Monday – Cloudy Skies and Cold Days Continue

Sunday brings mainly cloudy skies and another 60% chance of flurries in the afternoon. Winds turn northwesterly at 20 km/h, and the high only reaches -2°C. The wind chill, however, will take it all the way down to -16°C in the morning and -7°C in the afternoon. The UV index bumps up slightly to 4—still moderate, so while the sun won’t be front and centre, it’ll peek through now and then.

Sunday night cools off again under partly cloudy skies, with the mercury dropping to -14°C. Monday finally brings a little weather reprieve with a sunny forecast and a high of -2°C. Clear skies return Monday night as well, but the low dips to -15°C, so spring remains fashionably late.

What to Wear in Kenora This Weekend

This isn’t “light jacket” weather just yet. Think warm winter coat, toque, gloves, and yes—maybe even snow boots if those flurries accumulate. With strong winds and below-freezing wind chills, you’ll need to layer up smartly, especially in the mornings and evenings. Monday’s sun will be a welcome sight, but it won’t bring much warmth—so keep that scarf on standby.

This Day in Kenora Weather History

April 5th has delivered some interesting temperature swings over the years. The warmest recorded temperature on this date in Kenora was a spring-like 14.6°C in 1991. On the chilly end, the record low hit a frosty -24.5°C back in 1982. So while today’s forecast feels wintry, it’s far from the worst this date has seen!
