At approximately 8:30 p.m. on April 2, officers from the Central District General Patrol responded to an emergency call in the area of Portage Avenue and Main Street, one of Winnipeg’s busiest intersections. Upon arrival, police located a 21-year-old male victim at the rear of the bus suffering from an upper body wound consistent with a stabbing.
Police provided immediate emergency care, including the application of a chest seal, which likely helped stabilize the victim before paramedics transported him to hospital. The victim was initially listed in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
Robbery Attempt Escalated into Violence
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that a group of unidentified suspects approached the victim while the bus was in service and attempted to rob him. A physical altercation ensued, during which the victim was stabbed. The suspects fled the bus before officers arrived at the scene.
The Major Crimes Unit of the Winnipeg Police Service has taken over the investigation and is now seeking public assistance to identify and locate the individuals involved.
