Fatal Fire Under Investigation in Sioux Lookout

One person confirmed deceased after early morning fire in Sioux Lookout. Investigation ongoing

SIOUX LOOKOUT – NEWS: A tragic early morning fire in Sioux Lookout has claimed the life of one individual, prompting a multi-agency investigation into the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Just before 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, emergency responders from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Sioux Lookout Fire Services were called to a report of a fire at a partially-demolished, decommissioned structure on Seventh Avenue within the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.

Fire crews arrived to find an active blaze at the scene. Upon extinguishing the fire, one individual was discovered deceased inside the structure. The identity of the individual has not yet been confirmed, and authorities are working to notify next of kin.


Investigation Underway

The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal is leading the investigation, in coordination with:

  • Sioux Lookout Fire Services

  • Sioux Lookout OPP

  • Northwest Region Crime Unit

  • OPP Forensic Identification Services

Authorities remain on site as they examine the cause of the fire and determine whether foul play may have been involved. No additional injuries have been reported at this time.
