A Cold Start and Cloudy Skies Across Greenstone
Geraldton–Greenstone, ON – Sunday, March 30, 2025 – While parts of Ontario are slipping and sliding under freezing rain warnings, Geraldton and the broader Greenstone region are dodging the ice — but not the cold. This Sunday kicks off with cloudy skies and a bitter -13.5°C at Geraldton Airport, accompanied by a northeast wind at 15 km/h that’s sending wind chills plummeting to -21°C.
Cold with a Capital C: Clouds and Chilly Wind Chills Dominate
The humidity is a dry 58%, and the barometric pressure is sitting at 102.4 kPa, holding relatively steady for now. Visibility is decent at 16 km, but don’t let the cloudy calm fool you — the cold is clinging on.
Winds will pick up slightly this morning, with northeast gusts reaching 40 km/h, and the temperature will claw its way to a high of -5°C. Unfortunately, the wind chill will still feel like -24°C this morning and only slightly improve to -12°C by the afternoon. The UV index is 4, so yes, the sun is still technically a thing — just hidden behind a thick ceiling of cloud.
Tonight, skies will start to clear a bit with partly cloudy conditions, but the chill sets in deep with a low of -15°C. The northeast wind continues at 20 km/h, pushing the overnight wind chill down to -22°C. Might be a good night for extra blankets and minimal thermostat debate.
The Week Ahead: Slight Warmup, Then an Arctic Dip
Monday brings increasing cloudiness and more brisk winds, shifting from the northwest at 20 km/h with gusts up to 40. The high rises just a notch to -4°C, but wind chills in the morning will still flirt with -24°C, before easing to -9°C in the afternoon. There’s a 30% chance of flurries Monday night, with the temperature bottoming out at a sharp -24°C. Winter’s grip is still strong.
Tuesday gives us a little break in the cloud with sunny skies and a high of -2°C, followed by another clear and cold night, dropping to -16°C. It’s still very much wool-socks-and-hot-soup weather.
What to Wear? Basically All the Clothes
This is classic northern Ontario late March weather — layer like you mean it. Windproof outerwear, thermal everything, and a good toque are your best friends. Keep your face covered in the mornings unless you’re going for that “instant frostbite chic” look. Gloves aren’t optional — they’re mandatory.
Historical Highs and Lows
Geraldton has seen a record high of 9.8°C on March 30th, back in 1998. The record low is a teeth-chattering -36.7°C, set in 1964. While this year isn’t breaking any records, it’s a far cry from spring.
Greenstone Weather Trivia
Did you know Geraldton holds a reputation for being one of Ontario’s frostiest March towns? Its high elevation and inland location mean cold air loves to settle in and stick around — even when the calendar insists it’s spring.
