Let’s explore some of the other key developments shaping Canada’s iGaming market.

TORONTO – BUSINESS – Back in January, Ontario’s online gaming market kicked off the year with strong numbers. Now, with Q1 nearing its close, the January performance report from iGaming Ontario (iGO) provides an early snapshot of a sector that continues to gain strength across key performance metrics.

According to a data analysis report released by Casino Rewards Hub, Ontario’s non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) for January totaled $327,900, representing an impressive 646% increase compared to April 2022 — the first full month of regulated operations. The figure reflects total cash wagers (minus player winnings) across all operators, not accounting for operating costs or promotional wagers.

Rapid Growth in Player Activity

The number of active player accounts rose to 1,105 in January, up nearly 300% from April 2022. While this figure includes accounts across multiple operators and may not reflect unique individuals, the steady growth signals strong consumer adoption of legal, regulated online gambling options.

Revenue Per Player Nears Key Threshold

Ontario’s market also demonstrated consistency in value per player. The average revenue per player account (ARPPA) reached $297 in January — just shy of the $300 benchmark — underscoring high levels of engagement and market efficiency. This figure is calculated by dividing the total NAGGR by the number of active player accounts.

Cash Wagers on the Rise

Total cash wagers (excluding bonuses and promotional play) hit $7.8 million in January 2025, up from $4.6 million in January 2023. The 70% increase over two years illustrates growing confidence in Ontario’s legal iGaming options and a shift away from unregulated platforms.

A Leading Example in Regulated Gaming

With over 50 licensed operators and more than 84 approved websites, Ontario’s iGaming framework has quickly become a model for regulation, player protection, and market competitiveness.

The report emphasizes that Ontario’s strong performance is not just about volume, but also about sustainable growth, consumer trust, and regulatory foresight. As more players choose secure, legal platforms, the province’s digital gambling ecosystem appears well-positioned for continued success through 2025 and beyond.
