A Sunny Tuesday with a Side of Chill

Thunder Bay sees clear skies and a high of +4°C today after a frosty start. Warmer temperatures and sunshine continue midweek, with snow chances returning Friday

THUNDER BAY – Weather Report – March 25, 2025: It’s a beautiful but frosty morning in Thunder Bay, where the thermometer reads -12.7°C at the airport as of 6:00 AM. Skies are crystal clear, but don’t let the sunshine fool you—there’s a crisp breeze from the west at 8 km/h, making it feel more like -18°C with the wind chill.

Humidity is at 88%, and barometric pressure is holding steady at 101.6 kPa and rising—always a good sign for fair weather.

Today’s forecast features plenty of sunshine, with a high climbing to a surprisingly pleasant +4°C. The wind will shift and pick up later this morning, coming in from the northwest at 20 km/h.

Wind chills will linger near -19°C this morning but gradually ease through the day. With a UV index of 3, it’s a good day to dig out your sunglasses—and maybe start pretending spring is really here.

Tonight and Wednesday: Clouds Creep In, Temperatures Rise

Clouds will begin to roll in this evening, although winds will stay light at up to 15 km/h. Overnight temperatures will fall to -10°C, and the wind chill will make it feel like -15°C—so keep that extra blanket close if you’re not quite ready to give up winter coziness.

Wednesday starts off sunny again, but don’t get too used to it—clouds are expected to move in early in the afternoon. Winds will increase from the west at 20 km/h, gusting up to 40 km/h. Temperatures continue their slow upward climb, with a high reaching +6°C.

The morning will still be brisk with wind chills of -15°C, but the afternoon will bring some of the warmest weather we’ve seen in weeks. The UV index stays at a moderate 3.

Wednesday night brings a 30 percent chance of flurries or rain showers as the skies cloud over again. The overnight low will sit around -4°C, teetering on that fine line between winter and soggy spring.

Looking Ahead: Sunshine, Flurries, and a Temperature Tug-of-War

Thursday offers more sunny skies with a high of +2°C—cooler than Wednesday but still pleasant enough for a lunchtime walk without the full snowsuit. Thursday night turns cloudy again, with a 30 percent chance of flurries and a low of -4°C.

Friday, however, pulls the winter card once more, with a 60 percent chance of snow and a high of just -2°C. More snow is likely Friday night with continued cloudy skies and a low of -7°C. So yes, the sun may be out, but don’t put the snow shovel in storage just yet.

Dress for the Weather—Thunder Bay Style

Start your day layered up—thick coat, scarf, and gloves are a must for those morning chills. You can dial it down slightly by mid-afternoon with temperatures climbing above zero. Waterproof boots are a wise choice heading into Wednesday night and Friday, when slush and snow may make an appearance.

Historic Weather Flashback

March 25 in Thunder Bay has seen a wild range of temperatures over the years. The record high? A very spring-like 14.4°C in 1946. The record low? A teeth-chattering -31.7°C back in 1965. Today’s -13°C start isn’t exactly tropical, but hey—it could be worse.

Weather Trivia – Thunder Bay Edition:

Did you know Thunder Bay gets more sunlight annually than any other city in Ontario? With over 2,200 hours of sunshine per year, it’s no wonder the skies are showing off today. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the rare combination of sun and snow!
