PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – An electric, second-night crowd inside of Acrisure Arena roared as Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) climbed to the top of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast (UTB) Wrangler PBR Greater Palm Springs Round 2 leaderboard on Saturday night.
The 28-year-old, who rides for the Missouri Thunder during the separate PBR Teams league, scored a less-than-ideal 85 points Friday night on Cracky Chan, thus becoming a man on a mission Saturday in his matchup with Pay Dirt.
Alvidrez was one of 21 riders in a 36-man field to record a qualified ride on Saturday night. His standout 88.5-point ride put him in the No. 3 spot on the event leaderboard heading into Sunday’s final rounds.
Collecting 28 Unleash The Beast points for his round-winning ride, Alvidrez holds tight to the No. 6 spot in the UTB standings but is still 409.75 points behind world leader Brady Fielder (Clermont, Queensland, Australia).
Fielder, whose tour-best 12-ride streak came to an end on Friday night when he was bucked off, again had no luck on Saturday, hitting the ground after 3.3 seconds. Fielder is currently 0-for-2 in Palm Springs and losing ground in the 2025 world title race.
As the season dwindles to just five regular-season events following Palm Springs, all eyes are focused on a potential gold buckle following the PBR World Finals in Texas May 8-18.
None more than world No. 2 Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas).
Extending his ride streak to eight on Saturday night with his 86-point ride aboard Big Tasty, Kasel now sits at No. 4 on the Palm Springs leaderboard, having gone 2-for-2 thus far.
Kasel’s eight UTB points in Round 2, combined with the 12 he earned Friday night, put him a mere 68 points behind Fielder.
After an impressive performance on Friday night, sharing second place in Round 1 with 19-year-old phenom Ethan Winkler (Winnie, Texas), 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) furthered his hold on the top of the event leaderboard as night two rolled to a close.
As one of only eight men to sit a perfect 2-for-2 midway through the weekend, Pacheco conquered Two For The Show in Round 2 for 87.5 points, tying for fifth place in the round with Elizmar Jeremias (Anapu, Brazil). The qualified ride netted the cowboy 14.5 UTB points and propelled him from No. 8 to No. 7 in the overall standings.
Unable to best Hard Core Slinger on Friday night, Jeremias hit the gas on Saturday, besting Happy Hour. His matching 87.5-point score to Pacheco puts him at No. 20 in the world standings.
Nashville Stampede man Kaiden Loud (Kaufman, Texas) and Carolina Cowboys athlete Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington), who were both unsuccessful in their matchups on Friday night, shared second place in Saturday night’s round with identical 88.25-point rides.
Up first in the duo was Kolbaba aboard Body Roc, followed by Loud on Booker’s Bandit. While Kolbaba sailed through the air with ease, Loud slammed to the ground in his matchup, prompting judges to award a re-ride. His second pairing of the night with Desert Twister had the Palm Springs crowd at full volume.
Both cowboys earned 17.5 UTB points. The successful Saturday night moved Kolbaba to No. 24 in the world standings and Loud to No. 22.
Teenage phenom John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) claimed fourth place in Round 2.
After a disappointing Friday night when Cold Creek dispatched him at 4.22 seconds, the world title contender came back with a vengeance on Saturday. Showcasing the form that fans have come to know from him, the 19-year-old bested Smoke Show for 87.75 points.
The Florida Freedom athlete earned 16 UTB points on Saturday night to sit at No. 4 in the world standings. The bump in points puts Crimber 295.5 points behind Fielder.
