Kenora and Lake of the Woods start off cold at -12°C with a chance of flurries. A warm-up to 4°C is on the way, but chilly mornings stick around

Monday: A Mix of Sun, Clouds, and Flurries

Expect a mix of sun and cloud today, with a 40% chance of flurries throughout the day. Winds will pick up, shifting to the northeast at 20 km/h by late morning.

The high will reach -1°C, and while that’s an improvement, it will still feel like -15°C this morning and -5°C this afternoon with the wind chill. The UV index is low at 2, so sunglasses might not be necessary, but you may see a bit of brightness breaking through the clouds.

Tonight, partly cloudy skies continue, along with a lingering 40% chance of flurries. Winds will remain light at up to 15 km/h, and temperatures will drop to -9°C, with wind chills making it feel like -5°C this evening and -13°C overnight.

Tuesday: Warmer Air Moving In

Tuesday will bring mainly cloudy skies and another 40% chance of morning flurries, but things will start to warm up. The high will reach 4°C, though the morning will still be quite cold, with a wind chill of -16°C. Winds will remain light at up to 15 km/h, and the UV index will stay at a low 2.

Tuesday night will bring cloudy periods with a low of -10°C.

Midweek Outlook: Steady Temperatures, Some Flurries Possible

Wednesday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 0°C, a small step toward spring-like conditions. The night will be partly cloudy, with a low of -10°C.

Thursday brings similar conditions, with a mix of sun and cloud and a 30% chance of flurries. The high will stay around 0°C, and the night will be cloudy with a low of -11°C.

What to Wear?

For today, dress in warm layers, gloves, and a hat to handle the wind chill. By Tuesday afternoon, a lighter jacket might be enough as temperatures rise above freezing, but winter boots are still a good choice for any lingering snow.

Weather Trivia: March’s Big Temperature Swings

Kenora has seen some wild temperature swings in March. The warmest March 17th on record was 15.2°C in 2012, while the coldest was a bone-chilling -36.7°C in 1948. If today feels cold, at least we’re not setting records!
