Snow Arrives This Afternoon with a Sharp Temperature Drop Tonight

Kenora sees snow this afternoon with 2–4 cm expected before a deep freeze tonight at -20°C. A midweek warm-up brings a mix of rain and snow

Kenora and the Lake of the Woods region start the day under mostly cloudy skies with a temperature of -2°C. Humidity is sitting at 61%, and a brisk east-southeast wind at 15 km/h is making it feel like -7°C.

The barometric pressure is falling at 100.2 kPa, signaling an incoming system. Visibility remains excellent at 24 km, but that will change as snow develops this afternoon.

Today: Cloudy with Snow Developing, Winds Picking Up

The day starts with a 40% chance of flurries this morning, followed by steady snowfall beginning in the afternoon. Expect 2 to 4 cm of accumulation, with north winds increasing to 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h later this morning.

Temperatures will hover near 0°C, but the wind chill will make it feel like -7°C this morning and -12°C by the afternoon. The UV index will be low at 1, so sun protection won’t be much of a concern.

Tonight: Snow Ends, Arctic Air Blasts In

Snow will taper off this evening, adding another 2 cm to today’s total before skies begin to clear. However, as the clouds break, temperatures will plummet to -20°C overnight. Winds from the north at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h, will make it feel like -12°C this evening and a frigid -25°C overnight.

If you’re out late, frostbite can occur in a matter of minutes, so dress warmly!

Tuesday: Bitter Cold Start, Slight Improvement in the Afternoon

Tuesday will bring a mix of sun and cloud, but temperatures will struggle to climb, with a high of -9°C. The morning wind chill will be an extreme -27°C, improving slightly to -14°C in the afternoon. Winds will remain light, but the bitter cold will be the dominant story of the day.

By Tuesday night, clouds will return, bringing a 30% chance of flurries and a low of -10°C.

Kenora Weather Trivia

Did you know Kenora once saw a March temperature swing of 32°C in just two days? On March 5, 1943, the high was 16°C, and by March 7, it had plummeted to -16°C! This week’s rollercoaster weather proves that March in Northwestern Ontario is just as unpredictable!
