Special Weather Statement in Effect

Toronto faces rain, melting snow, and a risk of thunderstorms midweek. Special Weather Statement in effect—expect flooding risks. Cooler air returns by Thursday

TORONTO – WEATHER DESK – Toronto is in for a soggy stretch as Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement due to expected rainfall combined with melting snow. The frozen ground won’t be able to absorb all the moisture, increasing the risk of localized flooding and water pooling on roads.

Expect 15 to 25 mm of rain from tonight through Wednesday, with the possibility of even heavier downpours if thunderstorms develop in the afternoon and evening.

Current Conditions (March 4, 2025 – 7:00 AM EST)

Toronto is waking up to cloudy skies and a temperature of 1.6°C at Pearson International Airport. The wind is coming from the southeast at 6 km/h, and humidity sits at 62%. The barometric pressure is 101.5 kPa and falling, a sign that the approaching system is moving in.

For some weather history, March 4 has seen some extremes—Toronto’s warmest recorded temperature on this date was 15.5°C, while the coldest was a brisk -22.2°C.

Today’s Forecast: Wet Weather Incoming

Expect cloudy skies with a few showers beginning this morning and a high of 5°C. The UV index will be low at 2, so sunglasses won’t be a top priority today. Tonight, skies remain mainly cloudy, with a 40% chance of showers this evening and after midnight before steadier rain begins overnight. The low will be 3°C.

Wednesday: A Rainy, Mild, and Stormy Day?

Periods of rain mixed with drizzle will dominate Wednesday, with a high of 8°C. There’s also a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon, so don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble or two. Rainfall amounts could range from 10 to 20 mm, and an east wind at 20 km/h will lighten by late morning.

Wednesday Night: The rain tapers off, but cloudy skies and a 60% chance of showers remain, with a low of 2°C.

Thursday and Beyond: Cooling Down Again

Thursday looks cloudy with a 60% chance of rain showers or flurries as temperatures drop back to 2°C. By night, there’s a 30% chance of flurries with a low of -3°C.

Friday will bring a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 4°C—a nice break from all the moisture. The night will see cloudy periods and a 30% chance of flurries, with a chilly low of -6°C.

Wardrobe Recommendations

You’ll definitely want waterproof gear today and tomorrow. A rain jacket, boots, and an umbrella will be your best friends. With temperatures hovering above freezing, you won’t need your thickest winter coat, but layering up is still a good idea. By Thursday, with flurries in the mix, winter accessories may need to make a comeback.
