Brace for 15-25 cm of Snowfall Thursday Night into Friday

Snowfall Warning for Kenora & surrounding areas: 15-25 cm expected Thursday night into Friday. Travel hazards ahead—prepare for reduced visibility & slick roads!

Winter is flexing its muscles once again as Kenora, Grassy Narrows, Whitedog, Clearwater Bay, and Lake of the Woods are under a Snowfall Warning. A fast-moving Alberta Clipper is set to dump significant snowfall across northwestern Ontario, making travel conditions treacherous.

How Much Snow Are We Talking?

Expect widespread snowfall accumulations of 15 cm, with localized areas—especially in higher terrain—seeing up to 25 cm. At its peak, snowfall rates could reach a whopping 2 to 4 cm per hour, drastically reducing visibility and making roads slick and hazardous. If you need to be on the road, patience and caution will be your best allies.

Timing: When Will the Snow Arrive?

  • Snow begins Thursday evening, gradually intensifying overnight.
  • Heaviest snowfall expected late Thursday into early Friday.
  • Conditions improve Friday morning, though lingering snow and blowing snow may still pose challenges.

Travel Conditions: Plan Ahead & Drive Safe

Rapidly accumulating snow means highways, roads, sidewalks, and parking lots will quickly become difficult to navigate. If you must travel:
🚗 Turn on your headlights—visibility will be reduced.
🚗 Maintain a safe following distance—braking on snowy roads takes longer.
🚗 Take your time—rushing through heavy snowfall is a recipe for trouble.

For those who can, staying home with a hot cup of coffee and watching the snow from indoors might be the better option!

Dressing for the Storm: Stay Warm & Dry

With heavy snow on the way, full winter gear is a must:
🧥 Insulated coat to keep the chill away
🧤 Thick gloves to avoid frozen fingers
🧣 Scarf and hat for extra warmth
🥾 Waterproof boots—because slushy socks are never fun

Did You Know? Kenora’s Snowy History

Kenora is no stranger to heavy snowfalls. Back in March 1966, the area saw an incredible 45 cm of snow in just one day! While this upcoming storm isn’t quite on that level, it’s still packing a punch.

Stay safe, stay warm, and if you don’t have to travel, enjoy the snowfall from the comfort of home!
