SIU Invokes Mandate Following Police Response
A Sioux Lookout man faces robbery and weapons charges following a police response. The SIU has invoked its mandate
Sioux Lookout, ON – A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a robbery in Sioux Lookout, prompting the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to invoke its mandate.
On Friday, February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., members of the Sioux Lookout OPP and the OPP Emergency Response Team responded to a robbery report at a grocery store on Queen Street. Officers located the suspect nearby, and during the encounter, police discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) before taking the individual into custody.
Charges Laid
Following the investigation, Tyler WHISKEYJACK, 29, of Sioux Lookout, has been charged with:
- Robbery with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
The accused was held for a bail hearing and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on February 22, 2025.
