Two Ontario men arrested as Nishnawbe Aski Police intercept suspected drug trafficking operation

Police Seize Firearms and Drugs in Northern Ontario

(Deer Lake, ON) – A drug trafficking investigation in Deer Lake First Nation has led to the arrest of two Ontario men, along with the seizure of cocaine, shotguns, and cash.

Traffic Stop Leads to Major Seizure

On the evening of February 13, 2025, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) officers, responding to reports of suspected drug trafficking, located a white pickup truck in the community.

Upon investigating, officers identified two male suspects allegedly in possession of firearms and illicit drugs. Both individuals were taken into custody without incident.

Seized: Shotguns, Cocaine, and Cash

The NAPS Intelligence Unit was called in to assist with the investigation, which resulted in the seizure of:

  • Two shotguns
  • Cocaine
  • Cash exceeding $5,000
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia

Charges Laid Against Two Suspects

Trevor Andrew LAWROW, 35, and Dan BANKS, 33, both of Wellesley, Ontario, face multiple charges, including:

  • Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (x2)
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (x2)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime Over $5,000

Additionally, Dan BANKS faces two counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Both accused appeared in court for a bail hearing on February 14 and were remanded into custody. Their next court dates are pending.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related crime in Northern Ontario communities.
