Dryden OPP arrest a 73-year-old Surrey man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after a fail-to-stop incident

Dryden – CRIME REPORT – What started as a routine traffic stop on Highway 17 has led to the arrest of an individual wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, following a fail-to-stop incident near Dryden and Sioux Lookout.

Incident Details

On February 9, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Sioux Lookout OPP officers observed a vehicle traveling unsafely on Highway 17.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply. Officers opted not to pursue but notified Dryden OPP, who later located the vehicle west of Bonney Bay Road.

Authorities were able to safely stop the vehicle, and the driver was arrested without incident.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a firearm, and further investigation confirmed the individual was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant.

Suspect and Charges

The accused, Andrew IAN, 73, of Surrey, British Columbia, has been charged with:

  • Flight from peace officer
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

Legal Proceedings

IAN has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden at a later date.
