Snowstorm Tapers Off, But Blustery Conditions Persist

Toronto’s winter storm is winding down, but gusty winds and blowing snow will keep conditions tricky today. Cold temperatures and flurries stick around into the weekend

Toronto is waking up to a winter wonderland this morning, but the lingering effects of last night’s snowstorm are still being felt. A Snowfall Warning remains in effect for the city, with an additional 2 to 5 cm of snow expected before it all tapers off.

At its worst, the storm was dumping snow at a rate of 2 to 4 cm per hour, leading to reduced visibility and treacherous roads. Though the heaviest snowfall is ending this morning, blowing snow and gusty winds will continue to create tricky travel conditions throughout the day.

Current Conditions in Toronto

As of 6:00 AM, the temperature sits at -7.6°C, with a biting wind chill of -14°C thanks to a north-northwest wind at 18 km/h. The humidity is high at 93%, making the cold feel even more intense. Visibility is reduced to 3 km due to lingering light snow. The barometric pressure is at 100.3 kPa and falling, signaling that unsettled conditions will persist.

Today’s Forecast: Snow Winds Down, Blowing Snow Takes Over

Expect partly cloudy skies with a 60% chance of flurries overnight. The west wind will continue to gust up to 50 km/h, making the low of -7°C feel like a frigid -16°C at its worst. If you’re out for a late-night stroll, layer up and keep that scarf handy.

Friday: A Chilly Valentine’s Day with a Few Flurries

Cupid’s got a frosty touch this year, as Friday will bring a mix of sun and cloud, with a 40% chance of flurries early in the morning. The wind will be west at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h, before easing up around midday. The high will be -4°C, with a wind chill of -14°C in the morning and -7°C in the afternoon. Perfect weather for snuggling up with a warm drink instead of braving the cold.

Friday night will be cloudy with a 40% chance of snow, and temperatures dipping to -7°C.

Looking Ahead: Weekend Snow Returns

Winter isn’t done with Toronto just yet! Saturday brings periods of snow with a high of 0°C, and the snowfall will continue into the night with a low of -2°C. If you’ve got weekend travel plans, keep an eye on the forecast and prepare for potentially slippery roads.

What to Wear Today?

Today calls for full winter armor—a heavy coat, insulated gloves, scarf, and hat. Wind chills will make it feel like -13°C this morning, so thermal layers are a smart move. If you’re heading out during gusty conditions, goggles or sunglasses will help shield your eyes from blowing snow.
