Library to host expert panel to discuss consequences of looming trade war
Thunder Bay, ON – February 6, 2025: Thunder Bay Public Library is inviting the public to attend a panel discussion next Thursday evening to learn how a trade war between Canada and the United States would most likely affect residents of Thunder Bay, and how best to prepare for the possibility of President Trump’s tariffs being imposed after the current “pause.”
The panel will include Dr. Karl Skogstad and Dr. Toby Rollo from Lakehead University; Deloitte’s Senior Manager, Economic Advisory Sarah Lewis, and Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce President Charla Robinson.
Panelists will discuss a set of questions designed to help people understand the personal effects of a trade war between Canada and the US, with an opportunity afterwards for audience members to pose their own questions.
“Most of the news coverage relates to big-picture consequences of a trade war; for the nation, for the economy, and for businesses,” said Richard Togman, CEO of Thunder Bay Public Library. “This event aims to bring the information to the local level. How might a trade war affect Thunder Bay and what might that look like for the people who live here?”
The free event will be held at Waverley Library on Thursday, February 13 from 6pm to 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
