Tent Fire at Freedom Park Encampment Sends One to Hospital

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue extinguishes a tent fire at Freedom Park encampment; one person injured and hospitalized

Thunder Bay, ON – February 3, 2025 – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a tent fire at the Freedom Park encampment at approximately 5:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Firefighters arriving on scene quickly extinguished the blaze, but not before it completely destroyed the tent. A second fire crew provided assistance to the tent’s lone occupant, who sustained injuries during the incident.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to assess the individual and transported them to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment.

Police were also on the scene, and a Fire Inspector was notified to investigate the incident further.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds the public that tents are highly flammable and urges extreme caution when using any heat sources in or near them.
