Firefighters Extinguish Contents Fire, Issue Candle Safety Reminder

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) responded to an early morning structural fire in the 200 block of South Franklin Street on February 2, 2025.

The call came in at 6:50 a.m., prompting the dispatch of six pumpers, an aerial ladder, and a command unit. Upon arrival, firefighters were met by a resident who identified the fire’s location within the home.

Quick Response Contains the Fire

Firefighters entered the smoke-filled home with a hose line, successfully extinguishing the fire before it could spread beyond its initial point.

Additional crews supported the operation by ensuring water supply and conducting a thorough search of the residence, as it was initially unclear if all occupants had evacuated.

Ventilation efforts were also performed to clear smoke from the home.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds residents of the importance of fire safety, particularly when using candles. Ensure candles are monitored at all times and placed away from combustible materials. Additionally, working smoke alarms should be installed on every level of your home to provide critical early warnings in the event of a fire.
