Two suspects arrested in Aroland First Nation following a violent break-and-enter and sexual assault

(Aroland, ON) – Two individuals have been arrested following a disturbing break-and-enter and sexual assault incident in Aroland First Nation.

Police Respond to Incident in Aroland

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, officers from the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) Aroland detachment responded to a call regarding a break-and-enter and significant property damage at a local residence. The incident, which occurred in the early morning hours, involved masked male suspects who forcibly entered a home and caused serious harm to the resident.

Masked Suspects Force Entry and Commit Assault

The investigation revealed that the suspects entered the residence using forced entry. Once inside, the attackers sexually assaulted a male resident and caused significant property damage before fleeing the scene. Police described the incident as particularly violent and invasive.

Arrests Made Following Police Investigation

Following an extensive investigation, authorities identified and arrested two suspects on Thursday, Jan. 30:

  • Robert Boucher, 45, of Aroland First Nation, is charged with:
    • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence (Section 348(1)): Breaking into someone’s home to commit a serious crime, such as assault or theft.
    • Mischief Under $5,000 (Section 430(4)): Wilfully destroying or damaging property valued at less than $5,000.
    • Sexual Assault with a Weapon (Section 272(1)): Using a weapon or threat of violence while committing sexual assault.
    • Forcible Confinement (Section 279(2)): Illegally restraining or holding a person against their will.
    • Disguise with Intent (Section 351(2)): Wearing a mask or disguise to conceal identity while committing a crime.
  • Darryl Joseph Ricky Nate, 22, of Aroland First Nation, is charged with:
    • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence (Section 348(1))
    • Mischief Under $5,000 (two counts)
    • Sexual Assault with a Weapon (Section 272(1))
    • Forcible Confinement (Section 279(2))
    • Disguise with Intent (Section 351(2))

Both suspects appeared for a bail hearing on Friday, Jan. 31, where they were remanded into custody pending future court dates.
