THUNDER BAY, ON – A Thunder Bay man is facing multiple charges after being stopped for speeding in a community safety zone. The traffic stop revealed he was driving while impaired, prohibited from driving, and had attempted to mislead police with a false identity.
Traffic Stop Uncovers Multiple Offenses
On the afternoon of Monday, January 27, a Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit officer observed a vehicle traveling at over 70 km/h in a 40 km/h community safety zone. Shortly after, the same vehicle was recorded at nearly 90 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop to investigate.
During the stop, the driver provided a false identity. Further investigation revealed multiple signs of impairment and uncovered that the individual was wanted on a warrant and subject to six separate driving prohibitions.
Charges Laid Against the Accused
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Mahad Musse, is now facing the following charges:
- Impaired Operation of a Vehicle
- Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle
- Operation of a Vehicle While Prohibited (2 counts)
- Identity Fraud
- Breach of Probation
Penalties and Future Proceedings
The accused appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was remanded into custody pending a future court appearance. His vehicle has been impounded for 45 days, and his driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days.
