367 Incidents Reported, 50 Charges Laid
(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – The Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 367 incidents from January 20 to January 26, 2025. The week’s activity included a variety of community safety and enforcement efforts.
Incident Highlights
Top Categories of Calls:
- Liquor Licence Control Act violations: 51
- Police assistance: 36
- R.I.D.E. program stops: 26
- Unwanted persons: 25
- Ambulance assistance: 23
- Assaults: 16
- Property checks: 15
Mental Health and Well-Being:
- Threats or attempts of suicide: 13
- Mental Health Act-related incidents: 7
- Person well-being checks: 13
Law Enforcement Actions:
- Bail violations: 10
- Drug offences: 5
- Warrants executed: 4
- Sexual assault investigations: 2
In addition to these incidents, the Sioux Lookout OPP responded to various traffic hazards, domestic disputes, mischief, and noise complaints.
Charges and Enforcement Efforts
The detachment laid 47 charges under the Criminal Code and 3 under the Highway Traffic Act during the week.
Citizen Self-Reporting Tool
The OPP encourages the use of the Citizen Self Reporting (CSR) tool for non-emergency incidents. The online system, introduced in 2014, allows residents to report minor crimes or incidents without needing an officer on-site. This efficient platform can be accessed via opp.ca from any device.
Eligible Incidents for CSR:
- Theft under $5,000
- Mischief or property damage under $5,000
- Theft from vehicles
- Lost or missing property under $5,000
- Stolen license plates
- Driving complaints
The system is designed to enhance police service delivery, focusing on providing quick, accessible options for reporting non-urgent issues.
