187 Incidents Reported, 29 Charges Laid
(RAINY RIVER, ON) – The Rainy River Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 187 occurrences during the week of January 20–26, 2025. The detachment addressed a wide range of incidents, ensuring community safety and enforcing local and provincial laws.
Key Incidents for the Week
Top Categories of Calls:
- Domestic disputes: 13
- Police assistance: 12
- Unwanted persons: 12
- Motor vehicle collisions: 11
- eTickets issued to vehicles: 9
- Traffic complaints: 8
Mental Health and Community Concerns:
- Mental Health Act-related incidents: 6
- Person well-being checks: 6
- Prevent breach of peace: 4
Law Enforcement and Public Safety:
- Warrants executed: 7
- Liquor Licence Control Act violations: 5
- Drug offences: 2
- Impaired driving charges: 3
The Rainy River OPP also responded to incidents involving harassment, fraud, trespassing, sexual assault, and sudden death investigations.
Charges Laid
During the week, officers laid 23 charges under the Criminal Code and 6 charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
Citizen Self-Reporting Tool
The OPP is reminding the public of its Citizen Self Reporting (CSR) tool for non-emergency incidents. Available since 2014, CSR allows individuals to report certain minor crimes online without requiring an officer at the scene.
Incidents Eligible for CSR:
- Theft under $5,000
- Mischief or damage to property under $5,000
- Theft from vehicles
- Lost or missing property under $5,000
- Stolen license plates
- Driving complaints
This user-friendly tool can be accessed anytime via opp.ca from any computer or mobile device. It helps enhance service delivery by streamlining the reporting of minor, non-emergency incidents.
