THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) responded to a structural fire on Leys Street at 6:16 p.m. on January 20, 2025. All occupants of the home had safely evacuated before emergency crews arrived.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames burning through the roof of a single-story residential home. Initial firefighting efforts focused on controlling the blaze from the exterior. Once stabilized, crews conducted an interior attack and a thorough search of the building to ensure no one was inside.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated response, the fire was contained, and damage was limited to the living room, its ceiling, and the roof above the fireplace.

A Robust Response from TBFR

The incident required a significant deployment of resources, including seven Pumpers, one Aerial Ladder, and one Command Vehicle. TBFR’s teamwork and expertise ensured the fire was brought under control efficiently.

A Critical Safety Reminder

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is urging all residents to ensure their homes are equipped with functioning smoke detectors and to practice a fire escape plan regularly with their families. These precautions are critical for safeguarding lives during emergencies.
