Shuniah, ON (Jan 19, 2025) – Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services (SFES) swiftly responded to a chimney fire on Highway 11/17 near 5 Road South early Sunday morning.

Quick Action Prevents Fire Spread

At approximately 7:45 a.m., crews arrived to find no visible flames but discovered the chimney rain cap was on fire. Thankfully, the fire had not extended into the chimney or the home. The two occupants were safely evacuated without injury.

Coordinated Response

A total of eight SFES firefighters, joined by two Pass Lake firefighters, tackled the fire. Crews completed their work and returned to service by 9:30 a.m.

Reminder on Chimney Safety

The fire was caused by a buildup of creosote on the chimney cap. SFES urges residents to prioritize home safety by conducting regular inspections and cleaning of fuel-burning appliance exhaust systems. Ensure smoke and CO alarms are functioning to protect your household.
