Generous donations surpass $327,000, ensuring continued community support in 2024

Thunder Bay, ON – December 25, 2024 –Thunder Bay’s holiday spirit has once again proved unstoppable. This year’s Christmas Kettle campaign has not only reached but surpassed its $300,000 goal, raising an impressive $327,615 to date. The overwhelming generosity of our community is a testament to the kindness and resilience of Thunder Bay residents.

“We’re deeply grateful for everyone who contributed to this success,” said Gary Ferguson, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Community & Residential Services. “Your support ensures we can continue to meet the needs of our neighbors throughout the coming year.”

Though the goal has been met, donations are still welcome and will further bolster services such as the mobile meal program, food bank hampers, school nutrition initiatives, and emergency shelter programs.

A Community United in Giving

The campaign’s success reflects the collective efforts of Thunder Bay’s individuals, businesses, and volunteers. Dedicated bell ringers, supportive local businesses, and generous corporate sponsors like Halfway Motors Nissan, Tbaytel, and Mastrangelo Fuels played crucial roles in making the campaign a triumph.

“Whether it was donating financially or giving your time to ring a bell, every contribution has made a difference,” Ferguson added.

Supporting the Community Year-Round

Funds from the Kettle campaign ensure that vital programs remain operational, such as:

  • Mobile meal services: Serving 50-240 people nightly.
  • Food bank hampers: Distributing 395 hampers monthly.
  • School nutrition programs: Supporting 135 students daily.
  • Emergency shelter and transitional housing: Providing a safe space for those in need.

There’s Still Time to Give

Donations will be accepted until midnight on December 31, 2024, and can be made online at www.journeytolifecentre.com, by mail to 545 Cumberland St. N., or by phone at 807-345-6492. Contributions received or postmarked by December 31 will qualify for a 2024 tax receipt.
