Teen Charged with Murder in Couchiching First Nation Homicide

COUCHICHING FIRST NATION, ON – A 16-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder following a homicide investigation in Couchiching First Nation.

On December 1st, 2024, around 4:30 a.m., Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) officers and paramedics responded to an incident at a residence where an individual was found deceased.

The OPP, working in partnership with T3PS, launched a major investigation involving forensic identification services, regional support teams, and the Emergency Response Team.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged. The accused is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

While police assure the public there is no ongoing threat to safety, a significant police presence will remain in the area as the investigation continues.
