SAULT STE. MARIE – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Sault Ste. Marie and St. Joseph Island. Snow, heavy at times, is expected to begin this afternoon and continue into Tuesday.
Hazards:
- Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected.
- Locally higher amounts, potentially exceeding 15 cm, are possible over higher terrain.
Timing:
- Snowfall will begin in the early afternoon for Sault Ste. Marie.
- The heaviest snowfall is expected through the evening and overnight hours.
- Snow will gradually taper off on Tuesday.
Impacts:
- Accumulating snow may make travel difficult on highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots.
- Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
Safety Precautions:
- Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
- If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.
- Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
