THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A fire broke out this afternoon at a six-story apartment building on Lincoln Street, prompting a swift and substantial response from Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR).
The emergency call came in at approximately 2:00 PM, reporting a fire in a second-floor apartment.
The first responding unit confirmed visible smoke billowing from a second-floor window, leading to the declaration of a working fire.
A second and third alarm were issued, summoning additional apparatus and personnel to the scene.
Fire Details and Emergency Response
Upon entering the affected apartment, firefighters encountered thick black smoke and flames concentrated in the bedroom area. TBFR crews quickly extinguished the fire, successfully preventing it from spreading to nearby units.
A thorough search of the apartment led to the discovery of one occupant. The individual received immediate medical attention from Thunder Bay Fire Rescue personnel before being transferred to Superior North EMS.
The patient were then transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment.
Fortunately, no other residents of the building were displaced as a result of the fire.
Investigation Underway
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified and is scheduled to investigate the cause of the fire tomorrow. The scene is currently being secured by Thunder Bay Police.
In total, eight pumpers, two aerial ladders, and Fire Command were dispatched to the scene to ensure the fire was quickly brought under control.
