Powerful Winds Expected Across Northwestern Ontario

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Batten down the hatches and make sure to put some heavy rocks in your children’s pockets for tomorrow morning.

A Special Weather Statement is now in effect for Ignace, Upsula, Raith, English River, Kakabeka Falls, Atikokan, Fort Frances, Emo, Nipigon and Rossport and points inbetween with powerful northwesterly winds anticipated early Monday morning.


Advisory Details

  • Hazard: Northwesterly winds gusting up to 80 km/h.
  • Timing: Strong winds will begin near or before dawn on Monday, November 11, lasting through the morning and easing by noon.

Discussion

Very strong northwesterly winds are expected to impact areas around western Lake Superior and Lake Nipigon, including Nipigon and Rossport. Gusts reaching up to 80 km/h will create windy conditions for several hours before gradually diminishing towards midday.

Potential Impacts: These gusts can move unsecured objects, break branches, and may lead to power outages. Please secure loose items outdoors and take precautions when traveling.
