Motorist Arrested for Impaired Driving in Apitipi Anicinapek Nation

APITIPI ANICINAPEK NATION – A 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with impaired driving after police responded to multiple reports of erratic driving in Apitipi Anicinapek Nation on the afternoon of Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Officers from the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) in Apitipi Anicinapek Nation received several calls reporting a vehicle speeding and swerving dangerously through the community. A NAPS officer on patrol soon located a vehicle matching the description near Noels Drive and Penatuche Road just after 4:30 p.m. The driver was observed speeding, prompting the officer to initiate a traffic stop.

During the stop, the officer noticed several signs of impairment and arrested the driver on suspicion of impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The motorist was then transported to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment in Iroquois Falls, where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted a further assessment. As a result, the individual was formally charged.

The 33-year-old woman from Apitipi Anicinapek Nation has been charged with:

  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

She has been released with conditions and is expected to appear in court at a later date. Her name will be withheld until charges are formally sworn in court.
