Headed today by the Matriarch Mama Catherine Donato and her three sons—James, Donny, and David—Donato’s Bakery has been a beacon of homemade goodness for over three decades. Each family member plays a unique role in the daily operations, contributing to the bakery’s longstanding success. James (the eldest), can often be found stirring the daily pot of marinara tomato sauce, focuses on product development and customer relations.
Donny (Donato) is the master of baking, crafting the breads and pastries that have become local favourites, while David supports various operational aspects to ensure everything runs smoothly.
“It’s a joy to showcase our family’s culinary heritage at The Royal,” said James. “We are not just presenting our marinara sauce; we’re celebrating the rich traditions of Thunder Bay and our family’s contributions to it.” said Donny.
Donato’s Marinara Sauce, made fresh every day, has won the People’s Choice award at previous fairs and continues to captivate taste buds with its authentic flavour and quality ingredients.
