THUNDER BAY, ON – The Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) has issued a Community Safety Advisory regarding the presence of a high-risk offender now living in the city.
This advisory comes after a thorough assessment of the individual’s history and the balancing of both privacy concerns and public safety.
Tony GORDON, 31, has a criminal record involving multiple convictions, including break and enter, trespassing at night, sexual assault, and assault by choking, suffocation, and strangulation.
GORDON has previously served prison sentences for these offenses.
As part of his release conditions, Tony GORDON is prohibited from attending public parks, swimming areas, or any place where children under the age of 16 are likely to be present, including daycares, school grounds, playgrounds, and community centres.
Members of the public are encouraged to immediately contact police if they observe GORDON violating any of these conditions.
This advisory is being shared as a precautionary measure to keep the community informed.
While Tony GORDON is identified as posing a potential safety risk, it is important to note that his rights, like those of any citizen, are protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The TBPS remains committed to safeguarding both community safety and the rights of individuals.
Background: Ontario’s High-Risk Offender Program
The Community Safety Advisory program in Ontario is part of the province’s High-Risk Offender Initiative. The initiative involves the careful monitoring of individuals who, after serving sentences for serious offenses, are deemed to pose a potential risk to the public.
This program works in conjunction with local police services to balance transparency and the need for public awareness with the legal protections afforded to offenders under the law.
The Thunder Bay Police Service, along with other law enforcement agencies, follows stringent protocols when deciding to issue advisories, ensuring that the community is informed while respecting privacy rights.
These advisories are designed to alert the public, not incite fear, and the community is urged to remain vigilant while respecting the dignity and legal rights of the individuals involved.
