    • An air attack response, including two CL-415 waterbombers and a birddog aircraft, was dispatched to reduce the fire’s intensity. Meanwhile, a FireRanger crew is on the ground working to establish control.

Fire Hazard Conditions

The wildland fire hazard remains high across the southern half of the Northwest Region, with extreme hazard conditions reported in the Thunder Bay fire management sector. In contrast, conditions in the far north are mostly moderate to low.

Residents and visitors in southern areas, particularly near Thunder Bay, should remain alert as fire risks are heightened. For more detailed information on active fires and hazard levels in specific areas, consult Ontario’s Interactive Fire Map.

Outdoor Burning Regulations and Safety

As we move further into the fall season, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services is urging the public to use extreme caution with outdoor burning. To safely dispose of yard waste and woody debris, consider composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, ensure it is done safely and within the limits of Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations.

  • Fires should only be ignited two hours before sunset and must be fully extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise.
  • Always have sufficient tools and water on-site to properly control the fire.

For comprehensive guidelines, consult Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations.

How to Report a Wildland Fire

  • North of the French and Mattawa Rivers: Dial 310-FIRE (no area code required).
  • South of the French and Mattawa Rivers: Dial 9-1-1.

Stay fire aware and help protect Ontario’s forests by following safety guidelines during this heightened fire season. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately to prevent further spread and ensure the safety of our communities.
