Bisson, a dedicated advocate, steps into leadership role at a critical time for First Nations

OTTAWA, ON – The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Bisson as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September 30, 2024. Bisson, a member of M’Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, brings extensive leadership experience and a deep commitment to advancing First Nations priorities.

“On behalf of the AFN Executive Committee, we warmly welcome Andrew Bisson,” said National Chief Woodhouse Nepinak. “Andrew’s leadership and policy expertise will guide the AFN through this crucial period. His dedication to First Nations advocacy is invaluable, and I look forward to working with him to achieve our shared goals.”

Bisson has served as the AFN’s Director of Health since August 2021 and has a robust academic background, holding a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Governance from Toronto Metropolitan University. He has also played a key leadership role within his own community and has taught First Nations students through the First Nations Technical Institute across Ontario.

The AFN is confident that under Bisson’s leadership, the organization will continue making strides toward advancing the rights and aspirations of First Nations communities.
