THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region has announced the launch of Footprints Northwest, a significant initiative designed to enhance support for victims of crime across the region.
As part of the OPP’s ongoing commitment to Safe Communities… A Secure Ontario, the Footprints Grants Project will deliver culturally sensitive and relevant training on intimate partner violence to children, youth, and educators in communities like Red Lake, Kenora, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, and Fort Frances.
“The Footprints Northwest Project brings together victim-centered resources into a collaborative hub. This funding creates a coalition that will have a profound and positive impact for people at their most vulnerable moment,” states Inspector Ben Curtis, North West Regional Headquarters.
The Footprints Fund aims to empower survivors of intimate partner violence by offering financial assistance to help them leave abusive situations and rebuild their lives. The initiative provides critical short- and long-term support, fostering independence and safety for victims.
Through collaboration with local women’s shelters, which will manage both the educational and operational aspects of the project, Footprints Northwest offers direct aid to high-risk victims.
If you or someone you know is experiencing intimate partner violence, local resources and the OPP are available for support. Contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or dial 9-1-1 in case of immediate danger.
