(SUDBURY, ON) – A driver faces impaired driving and drug trafficking charges after running a stop sign in front of an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser.
On September 14, 2024, around 5:40 p.m., officers from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) OPP Detachment stopped a vehicle that failed to stop at a sign on Lavallee Road in Greater Sudbury.
The driver was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the detachment for further testing. A search of the vehicle uncovered a digital scale and suspected methamphetamine.
As a result, Chad Thibert, 33, of Chelmsford, faces the following charges:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Trafficking in Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine
- Disobey stop sign – fail to stop
- Driving while under suspension
Thibert was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on October 9, 2024, in Sudbury. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
