Youth Arrested in Attawapiskat Following Assault with a Weapon Incident

ATTAWAPISKAT, ON – A male youth has been arrested and charged with assault with a weapon after an altercation at a residence on Friday, August 30, in Attawapiskat First Nation.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers from the local detachment responded to a call about a disturbance at a home that afternoon. Upon arrival, police determined that a confrontation had taken place between a 17-year-old male and an adult male inside the residence. During the incident, the youth reportedly brandished a knife toward the victim before fleeing.

Authorities confirmed that the accused and the victim knew each other. The youth was located later that afternoon and taken into custody without further incident.

The 17-year-old from Attawapiskat faces several charges, including:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Two counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order

The youth appeared in bail court on Saturday, August 31, and has been released with a future court date. The identity of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
