Attawapiskat – NEWS – An 18-year-old male has been charged after an incident involving a replica handgun at a pool hall in Attawapiskat First Nation on Friday, August 30.
Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service from the local detachment responded to a call that evening about a male suspect brandishing a handgun at a pool hall on Main Street West. When officers arrived, they found civilians holding down the suspect, who was then arrested without further incident.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect had entered the pool hall carrying what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at another individual. Several patrons intervened and managed to disarm him before police arrived. The weapon was later identified as a replica Glock-style handgun.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the altercation.
The accused, identified as Keegan Wheesk, 18, of Attawapiskat First Nation, faces several charges, including:
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Pointing a Firearm
Wheesk appeared for bail court on Saturday, August 31, and has been remanded into custody with a future court appearance.
