Lockdown Lifted at Nipigon and Red Rock Schools Following OPP Threat Investigation

(NIPIGON, ON) – News – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have apprehended one individual after a reported threat, leading to the lifting of lockdown and hold-and-secure protocols at schools in Nipigon and Red Rock on September 4, 2024.

The incident began at approximately 1:03 p.m., when the OPP received a report of a threat against an individual in the area. In collaboration with the Superior-Greenstone District School Board, all schools in Nipigon and Red Rock were placed under lockdown and hold-and-secure as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

An immediate investigation was launched, and by 2:14 p.m., OPP officers located and apprehended the individual responsible for the threat. Following the arrest, the lockdowns and hold-and-secure measures at the schools were promptly lifted.

The OPP expressed gratitude for the community’s cooperation during the situation, acknowledging the emotional impact such incidents can have. “The safety and security of our community is our top priority, and we will continue working tirelessly to ensure all residents feel safe,” said the OPP in a statement.

Alternatively, individuals who wish to remain anonymous can provide information through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), with the possibility of receiving a cash reward of up to $2,000.
