Thunder Bay man arrested for impaired driving after motorhome was reported swerving near Atikokan

ATIKOKAN, ON – A report of a motorhome swerving on Highway 11 led to the arrest of a Thunder Bay man for impaired driving.

On September 2, 2024, at approximately 8:00 pm, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Atikokan responded to a traffic complaint regarding a motorhome swerving near Armis Lake.

OPP Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

Their investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcohol. After a roadside screening test, the driver failed and was arrested. He was then transported to the Atikokan OPP detachment for further breath testing.

Reginald Galbraith, 72, of Thunder Bay, was charged with impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 mg or more. As a result, his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and the motorhome was impounded for seven days.

Galbraith has been released and is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on October 24, 2024.

It’s important to note that impaired operation charges can apply even if the vehicle isn’t in motion. Simply occupying the driver’s seat can be enough for a charge. Road safety is a shared responsibility—if you suspect an impaired driver, call 9-1-1 immediately.
