Stabbing Assaults – Arrest: C24-202274/C24-202304On August 30, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service arrested a male involved in two stabbings in the Downtown area. At approximately 8:00 p.m., police initially responded to the report of a male who had been stabbed in the park at Portage/Carlton. Central District Officers provided emergency medical care, including the use of a chest seal and the victim, in his 50s, was transported to hospital in critical condition, underwent treatment and was stabilized. At approximately 8:30 p.m., police responded to a second stabbing at Graham/Garry. A male victim in his 20s was seriously injured, and officers provided emergency medical care. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and has been upgraded to stable condition. The suspect left the area on a bus. The suspect eventually got off the bus and was on foot. General Patrol members and the following Specialty Units (Tactical Support Team, K9 Unit, and AIR1) searched the area and located the suspect in the river by Point Douglas. He eventually swam back to the bank and was safely taken into custody. He was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit, and investigators determined that both incidents were related. The accused and the first victim were known to each other and were consuming alcohol at a park by Portage/Carlton. An altercation took place, and the victim was stabbed in the upper body. When the accused fled, two individuals followed and confronted him at Graham/Garry. He then stabbed one of these males in the abdomen and left the area. A 38-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:
He was detained in custody. Major Crimes is continuing the investigation. Firearm – Arrest: C24-203272On August 31, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., General Patrol members from the West District, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, responded to a gun call near Kenaston/Sterling Lyon. The victim in this incident was the passenger in a vehicle driving southbound on Kenaston Boulevard when another vehicle approached and was driving erratically, swerving in and out of the lanes next to the victim’s vehicle. At one point, the suspect vehicle paralleled the victim’s vehicle and pointed a firearm described as a handgun at the victim and the driver. The suspect vehicle took off, and the victim immediately contacted police and provided a description of the suspect and vehicle. Police located the suspect vehicle parked in the 400 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway, and a male was observed exiting the vehicle and discarding an item in a garbage receptacle. He was taken into custody, and a handgun was seized from the garbage. The gun was determined to be a CO2 pistol. A 32-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
The accused is still in police custody and is awaiting further disposition. Robbery – Arrest: C24-202539On August 31, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a male who had been assaulted outside an establishment in the 400 block of Main Street. The victim, in his 20s, was standing outside the establishment when he became involved in an altercation with an unknown male who was in the area. The unknown male assaulted him on the ground by punching and kicking his body and left the area. While the victim was lying on the ground, a second unknown male (the accused) came over and began kicking him and stole some of his personal property. When police arrived, bystanders pointed out the second suspect, and he was taken into custody. The victim suffered some injuries but declined medical attention. A 25-year-old male, Ethan MCDOUGALL of Winnipeg, faces charges of Robbery and Failing to Comply with a Release Order. He was detained in custody. The Major Crimes Unit is continuing this investigation. He was confronted by a group of unknown males (one armed with a knife), kicked and punched, rendering him unconscious, and the males fled. The victim declined medical attention at the time and provided a vague description of three males: One suspect was Asian in appearance with braided hair (in rows), and the other two suspects had brown and black complexions.
