EDMONTON, AB – Edmonton’s weather is looking to keep everyone on their toes this week with a bit of everything: rain, sun, and rising temperatures.

Today, the city is experiencing a rainy day, with temperatures hovering around 16°C. Winds from the northwest will be gusting up to 40 km/h, making it feel even cooler. The rain is expected to taper off in the evening, leading to clearer skies overnight and a low of around 9°C.

The weather takes a positive turn starting Thursday, as the sun returns with a high of 23°C, perfect for enjoying the outdoors. The rest of the week continues to brighten up, with Friday bringing a bit more cloud cover but still reaching a high of 22°C. The weekend looks particularly inviting, with sunny skies and temperatures climbing up to 27°C by Sunday. By Monday, Edmonton could see highs approaching 29°C, marking a warm start to September.

Historically, Edmonton sees an average high of 20°C for late August, but this week’s forecast is set to surpass that, especially by the weekend. The city’s record high for August 28 was 31.1°C, set back in 1961, so while we’re not hitting those extremes, it’s still shaping up to be a pleasantly warm end to the month.

Wardrobe Tip: With the rain today, you’ll want to grab an umbrella and a light jacket, but pack away those raincoats by Thursday as the sun will have you reaching for your sunglasses and T-shirts.

Weather Trivia: Did you know that Edmonton once experienced a low of -3.8°C in late August? Thankfully, we’re nowhere near those chilly temperatures this year!
