Nipigon Incident: Woman Injured After Alleged Home Invasion on Wadsworth Drive

Early Morning Assault Reported

NIPIGON, ON – On August 24, 2024, at approximately 5:08 a.m., officers from the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to an address on Wadsworth Drive in response to a report of an assault.

Details of the Incident

When officers arrived, they encountered an injured female who claimed she had been assaulted. Further investigation revealed that the woman had entered the home while the two residents were asleep and allegedly began assaulting them. The homeowner, in an effort to protect themselves, used reasonable force to remove the woman from the residence. During the altercation, the woman fell down a set of stairs and was injured.

Legal Outcome

The woman, identified as Tiffany WAWIA, 44, of Lake Helen First Nation, was issued a Trespass Notice by the responding officers. The two residents of the home decided not to press charges against her.
