FORT FRANCES, ON – A routine traffic stop led to impaired driving charges for a 21-year-old Rainy River resident in the early hours of August 25, 2024.

At approximately 4:00 am, an officer from the Fort Frances Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) pulled over a vehicle on Armit Avenue after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. Upon investigation, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking and administered a roadside screening test, which the driver failed.

The driver, identified as Brayden HOLMES, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Fort Frances Detachment for further breath alcohol testing. HOLMES has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle due to alcohol and drugs and with operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg/100 mL. His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for seven days. Additionally, he received an offense notice for disobeying a stop sign.

HOLMES is scheduled to appear in the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice on October 7, 2024, to face the charges.

Fact about Impaired Driving: Even a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 50 mg/100 mL can significantly impair driving ability, with risks increasing as BAC rises. Remember, if you plan to drink, do not plan to drive.
